Introduction

• The expiration dates of domain names refer to the period during which the owner of a domain name has paid for the registration of that name.
• It is crucial for domain owners to carefully monitor expiration dates and renew their registration on time to avoid service interruption or having to pay additional recovery fees.
   

Transferring a Domain to Infomaniak

When a domain is transferred to Infomaniak, the new expiration date (the date until which the domain will be registered, valid, and functional) after the transfer will be:

• the existing date before the transfer + 365 days minimum
   

Example:

• Domain name with an expiration date of 01/12/2025 before transfer
• Transfer occurs on 01/10/2025 (no impact or significance)
• Expiration date becomes 01/12/2026 after transfer to Infomaniak (1 year is added following the transfer)

Exceptions Based on Domain Extensions

Transfer policies and effects on expiration dates may vary depending on the domain extension. Each domain extension (such as .com, .net, .org, etc.) is managed by a specific regulatory entity, which may have different rules regarding transfers and expiration dates.

The rule described in the previous section does not apply to certain extensions for which the new expiration date after the transfer will be:

• the existing date before transfer, without increment or change: .CH
• from the day of the transfer + 365 days minimum: .BE and .DE

Domain ownership transfers can also affect expiration dates. When a domain name is transferred from one owner to another, the expiration date may sometimes be adjusted depending on the registrar's policies.

Trasferire un dominio .be a Infomaniak

I domini .BE sono soggetti a una procedura speciale per ottenere il codice di autorizzazione (codice EPP).

Se il tuo vecchio registrar ti ha fornito un codice di autorizzazione, è probabile che questo non sia valido.

Infatti, per ottenere il codice di autorizzazione per un .BE, devi:

• cliccare su "Ottenere il codice di autorizzazione" dalla pagina che richiede il codice
• recarti su dnsbelgium.be e richiedere il codice di autorizzazione (codice EPP)

Non devi assolutamente provare a trasferire il dominio più volte con il codice errato, altrimenti bloccherai il dominio e il trasferimento (Comando non riuscito; contattare il supporto - dominio bloccato) per diverse ore senza che Infomaniak possa intervenire. Dovrai aspettare prima di provare di nuovo con un altro codice che deve assolutamente essere quello giusto.

Rimuovere un .be dalla quarantena

Oltre al periodo di trasferimento, e a seguito di informazioni whois obsolete o un uso sospetto del tuo dominio, è possibile che dnsbelgium.be, il registro belga, sospenda temporaneamente il dominio .BE.

Una query whois normale indicherà "NON DISPONIBILE", ma otterrai lo stato reale direttamente sul loro sito, incluso una data di disponibilità entro la quale è assolutamente necessario seguire una delle tre possibili soluzioni:

1. risolvere il problema con DNSBelgium e trasferire il dominio a Infomaniak
2. risolvere il problema con DNSBelgium e trasferire il dominio a un altro registrar (o a Infomaniak se il problema è sorto con un altro registrar)
3. ignorare il problema e attendere la data di disponibilità per tentare di registrare nuovamente il dominio (non raccomandato)

Nelle prime due soluzioni, dovrai ottenere da DNSBelgium la fine della quarantena e il codice di autorizzazione. L'operazione di (ri)iscrizione del dominio presso i nostri servizi è a pagamento (circa un centinaio di €/CHF) quindi è importante mantenere aggiornate le informazioni come specificato nei Termini e Condizioni Generali.

• Attiviamo questo nome di dominio solo una volta che i dettagli di contatto del titolare del nome di dominio sono stati convalidati

Transfer a .LU Domain

Transferring a .LU domain does not require a transfer code; instead, a validation email will be sent to the domain's administrator (listed in the whois) for validation of the transfer to Infomaniak.

The domain owner then has 15 days to validate the transfer; otherwise, the transfer will fail. Once the request is validated, the transfer is nearly immediate.

This guide details the procedure to modify the contact details of the owner of domain names, which you can apply to an entire batch of domains within your organization with Infomaniak.

Change Contact Details in Bulk

To modify the Whois details of multiple domain names at once:

1. Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox
2. Click on the icon at the top right of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
3. Choose Domaines (universe Web & Domaine)
4. Select the domains whose owner needs to be changed using the checkboxes
5. Click on Changer de propriétaire at the bottom of the table
   
   • Choose another already existing contact card
   • or click on the Ajouter button to create a completely new contact card
6. Verify your selection as well as any modification fees in the right-hand box
7. Click on Valider

Remove the Synonym Domain

To remove the synonym domain from the dashboard of the main domain:

1. log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox
2. click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left side menu, for example)
3. choose Domains (universe Web & Domain)
4. click on the name of the main domain in the displayed table
5. click on Synonym Domains in the left side menu
6. click on the action menu ⋮ to the right of the synonym domain in the displayed table
7. click on Disassociate this domain
   

You can also proceed in the other direction, by going to the dashboard of the synonym domain:

1. log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox
2. click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left side menu, for example)
3. choose Domains (universe Web & Domain)
4. click on the name of the synonym domain in the displayed table
5. click on Disassociate in the top banner
6. enable the checkbox to confirm the voluntary desynchronization of these 2 domains
7. click the red button to Disassociate the domain name
   

At this stage, you still need to dissociate the alias domain from your Web hosting and/or Mail if necessary:

• disassociate an alias domain from a Mail Service (click here)
• disassociate an alias domain from a Web Hosting (click here)

Registration Validation

To register a .ong or .ngo domain, you must be a non-governmental organization; this implies that registering a .ngo or .ong domain requires verification, which takes place after the domain registration.

You will receive an email (to the email address provided in the whois information) containing a link to complete this verification. It is important to follow this process within 360 days of registration; otherwise, your domain name will be rejected and removed by the registry.

Please note that the domain will only become active once this registration process is completed.

Introduction

When purchasing domain names or other web services, it is crucial to understand the rights and responsibilities arising from payments made. Confusion may arise between the person paying for a service and the person holding the rights to the service.

Paying for a service does not confer ownership

It is important to understand that paying invoices for a service or product does not automatically grant ownership rights over it.

For example, financing a phone subscription for another person does not grant you ownership of that subscription; paying for the purchase of a car does not automatically give you the right to drive it.

Similarly, paying for a domain name does not necessarily mean that you become the owner, especially if the contact details associated with the domain are not in your name, which can happen particularly if there has been a product transfer between organizations.

A domain name can be managed on the Manager (Infomaniak's administration interface) by a user within Organization XYZ and belong to a completely different user not even listed in Organization XYZ, while being paid for by a third-party entity, a Partner registered by Infomaniak.

Infomaniak, like other web service providers, clearly states in its General Terms of Use that payment for a service by a third party does not imply the transfer of ownership. In the event of a dispute, the client (or the person whose name is associated with the service) remains solely responsible for resolving the issue.

Verify all current contact details

To avoid any confusion, ensure that the contact details associated with any web service or domain name you pay for are in your name if you wish to hold the rights.

Verify the contact details:

• of your Infomaniak profile
• of the Organization you belong to
• of the billing information
• associated with a domain name if applicable

In case of a dispute, first contact the service provider to clarify the rights and responsibilities. If necessary, consult a legal advisor for appropriate advice. Understanding the distinctions between paying for a web service and owning it is essential to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings.
