Move local location kDrive
This guide explains how to change the local location used by the desktop app kDrive (desktop application on macOS / Windows / Linux) in order to e.g. store synchronized data on another hard drive where the first chosen person no longer has enough room.
Preamble
- Indeed if the option Lite Sync is not enabled, all existing data on the web app kDrive (online service) kdrive.infomaniak.com) are also locally present on the synchronised device and take storage space.
- As the volume of data can be very large, you may have to store the data on another hard drive than the one originally chosen.
- Never move a folder used for kDrive synchronization (
/kdrive
,/kdrive2
, etc.) neither when the kDrive application is opened nor when it is closed or uninstalled for the purpose of being reinstalled.- If everything is synchronized then you have to delete the file and the recreate as explained below.
- If you do something differently using a folder that already contains your data, you are exposed to file conflicts.
Change the local directory used by kDrive
To define a new folder for kDrive synchronization when the first folder initially selected is no longer to be used, follow this procedure:
- Make sure all your data is synchronized and exist while being visible on the kDrive Web app (online service) kdrive.infomaniak.com).
- If necessary locate the folder currently used by the kDrive desktop app (click on Drive Settings from the application then click on the blue URL displayed under Folders in order to open the local folder and thus locate its location):
- Leave the kDrive desktop app on the device where you want to modify the folder used:
- Uninstall the kDrive desktop app completely to delete all configuration/parameter data, etc. (on macOS, use kDrive Uninstaller present in the Applications/kDrive folder):
- Remove Folder
kDrive
(orkDrive2
, etc. located in point 2). - Reinstall the kDrive desktop app and when the login to the user account is completed, click on the icon pencil At the synchronization folder selection stage:
- Choose the new hard drive as the location of the new folder (name it at your convenience):
- Finish the configuration:
- Downloading the kDrive data on Infomaniak servers will start and continue entirely in the background.
- Be aware of this other guide to download only some specific folders.
