Backing up data with FileZilla on Swiss Backup (SFTP)

This guide details how to manually back up data using the FileZilla application (macOS / Windows / Linux) via the SFTP protocol on Swiss Backup, the backup solution in an independent Swiss cloud.

Prerequisites

• own a Swiss Backup Infomaniak space with an available device quota (minimum 1) for Cloud backup
• add 1 device of type Cloud to get the SFTP settings
• download and install FileZilla (macOS / Windows / Linux)

Configure FileZilla

To configure a new backup:

1. fill in the fields according to the information specific to your device (read this guide - click here)
   
   1. Host: sftp.swiss-backup02.infomaniak.com
   2. Username: Swiss Backup device name (e.g., SBI-MS0020)
   3. Password: Password generated via email received after creating the Swiss Backup device
   4. Port: 22
   5. click on Connect

FileZilla also allows you to set up connections so you don't have to enter the login credentials again:

1. click on the Site manager icon
   
2. click on New site
   
3. fill in the fields according to the information specific to your device (read this guide - click here)
1. Host: sftp.swiss-backup02.infomaniak.com
2. User: Swiss Backup device name (e.g., SBI-MS0020)
3. Password: Password generated via email received after creating the Swiss Backup device
4. Port: 22
5. click on "Connect"

We highlight the SFTP connection to ensure data is transmitted securely. It is entirely possible to use the host's connection, e.g., "ftp.swiss-backup02.infomaniak.com" with port 21. However, data will be transmitted in plain text (unencrypted) over the Internet (not recommended).
