Resolve a TLS error with certain email software
This guide explains how to resolve the TLS error that may occur when using certain email software whose version has become too old and incompatible with current security standards.
Update your email software
Infomaniak recommends using the latest versions of the email software you are accustomed to using.
With an IMAP configuration, it is easy to remove an account from the software that has become incompatible. The address created with Infomaniak is not affected; it continues to function, and you will retrieve all your old and new emails once the address is reconfigured on the new version of the email software.
Simply follow our many configuration guides for the desired application.
Use a temporary hostname
While you replace your obsolete email software, and to avoid an error that prevents you from correctly retrieving your emails, Infomaniak offers the use of a specially designed hostname available until the end of November 2024.
These proxies are configured to support obsolete versions of the TLS protocol (< 1.2), thus ensuring continuity of service when using outdated applications such as Outlook 2007.
All you have to do is replace the hostname of the current incoming IMAP server and outgoing SMTP server mail.infomaniak.com with the indication mail-legacy.infomaniak.com
(adding -legacy to the hostname).
Example with Outlook Office 2002 version:
- click on the Tools menu
- click on Options
- click on the Configure tab
- click on the Email Accounts button
- click on View or change
- click Next
- click on the relevant account
- click on the Modify button
- update the server names by adding -legacy
- click Next and save the changes to finish
