Restore macOS with Acronis from Swiss Backup
This guide details how to restore an Apple macOS computer using Acronis on Swiss Backup, the backup solution in an independent Swiss cloud.
Prerequisites
- The Acronis application must be installed on the computer where you want to perform the restoration; use the same credentials used to back up the machine when registering the agent:
- Read Acronis documentation on this subject
- Log in to the Acronis Console (acronis.infomaniak.com) — read this guide (click here) if needed
- Click the Add button in the top right corner
- Click on Mac
- Download and install the application
Create a Bootable USB Drive
To do this:
- Insert a blank USB drive of at least 4 GB into your Mac (warning: data on the drive will be erased)
- Open the Rescue Media Builder application from the Applications folder in your Mac's Finder. This application has automatically been installed with the Acronis application
- Select the detected USB drive and click Create Media
Start the Restoration Procedure
To do this:
- Restart the Mac with the bootable USB drive
- Depending on the macOS version, press and hold a key on the keyboard (consult the Apple guide to find out which one) during startup
- If necessary, click on the bootable USB drive to boot from it
Configure and Start the Restoration
To do this:
- Select your drive in Rescue Media Builder:
- Click on Rescue Boot Media:
- Click on Recover:
- Click on Select Data...
- Then click on Browse
- and select Cloud Storage; then click on the Log in button
- Use the device credentials to authenticate yourself
- Choose the Mac to restore and then click OK to start the restoration:
- If you chose to encrypt your backups, you will be asked for the backup password:
- In the upper part of the screen, select the available backup you want to restore:
- Once the backup is selected, in the lower part of the screen you can select the type of item to restore as well as those you want to restore; it is recommended to select the Volumes type and restore all available Volumes, this to restore all your hard drive(s)... then start the restoration by clicking the OK button:
- The restoration will then start, you can follow the progress via the Progress tab:
Once at 100%, your Mac will restart several times in a row (this is normal) until the entire procedure is completed.
