Understanding the difference between Synonyme and Alias
This guide explains the difference between the names Synonyme and Alias at the product level Area of Infomaniak.
Synonymous domain, alias domain
A synonym domain name and an alias domain name can both serve as secondary domain names to another domain name.
P.ex. domain names pomme.xyz (alias) and banane.xyz (synonym) can redirect to the domain name fruits.xyz(the main domain name).
The difference between a synonym and an alias is of a technical nature:
- a synonym domain name is based on the DNS of the main domain name
- an alias domain name has its own DNS
