Migration: Keeping Your Current Hosting Content
This guide explains how to migrate an existing Infomaniak Web hosting to the current offering of Web Hosting. By following this procedure, you will keep the content you currently have on your hosting while benefiting from the latest developments.
No time to migrate your services? Launch a free call for tenders to find an Infomaniak partner who will take care of everything.
1. Start the migration process
- Start the migration process by clicking here
- Activate the checkbox Recover files and databases
- Click on the Next button
At this stage, your website still works on the old server and you have 30 days to test and adapt your site on the new server. In order not to lose data, we advise you not to update your site on both the old and the new server during the migration phase.
2. Test your site on the new server
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Edge
- Click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Choose Hosting (Web & Domain universe)
- Click on the name of the hosting you migrated
- Click on the Test my sites button at the top of the page to display your site as it will appear when it goes live on the new server
- During your tests, check on each of the tested pages that the URL displayed in your browser's address bar corresponds to the preview address, otherwise check that your site does not have redirects preventing its preview
- If the site displays normally, proceed directly to step 4 otherwise proceed to step 3
3. Adapt the site for the new infrastructure
With a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or another web application (ownCloud, phpBB, etc.) using a database, adapt the following information in the appropriate configuration file for the site to work:
- the database name
- the database server
- the username accessing the database
- the password of the username accessing the database
To find this information on the Manager: http://faq.infomaniak.com/1981 (+ help WordPress and help Joomla)
- these modifications must be made on the new server via a new FTP account (help)
- to connect to the new server via FTP Manager (help), use the address of your Web server (help) and not the domain name, as the latter still points to the old server
4. Checks to be done before going live
Important! Before putting your site live, check the following points without fail.
4.1 Retrieve the latest changes on the new server
If the content of the old site has been modified by a user during the transition period, retrieve these modifications on the new server:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Edge
- Click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Choose Hosting (Web & Domain universe)
- Click on the name of the hosting you migrated
- Click on the Copy my data button
- Choose the items to import according to your needs (if you are reimporting the /web folder by activating the overwrite existing files parameter, you will also overwrite your modified configuration files; so remember to make a backup copy before proceeding to easily restore them after copying)
- Click on the blue Start copy button
4.2 Check scheduled tasks (cronjobs)
In case of scheduled tasks (cronjobs), it is necessary to test and reactivate them:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Edge
- Click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Choose Hosting (Web & Domain universe)
- Click on the name of the hosting you migrated
- Click on Advanced tools then on Task scheduler in the left sidebar menu,
- test your site again by following the procedure described in step 2 of this guide
5. Go live
To definitively switch traffic to the new server (you will then no longer have access to the old site and your databases stored on the old server):
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Edge
- Click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Choose Hosting (Web & Domain universe)
- Click on the name of the hosting you migrated
- Click on the Go live button
If your domain name is not managed by Infomaniak or if it is in a different customer account from the site concerned:
- modify the pointing (A-type records) to specify the new IP address of your site (help).
