Transfer a domain to Infomaniak

This guide explains how to transfer the domain name you own from another provider and move it to Infomaniak. You will remain the owner of your domain name and manage it easily at a low cost.
 

Prerequisites

• Check if the domain name is transferable according to certain criteria:
  • the domain must have been created or transferred at least 60 days ago
  • valid email addresses (owner details, administrative/technical contacts)
  • the domain must be unlocked
• Securely record the different DNS records (A / MX / TXT, etc.) if you plan to retain any other services besides Infomaniak after the transfer.

Transfer the domain to Infomaniak

Once the prerequisites above are confirmed:

1. Order the domain name for transfer to Infomaniak.
2. Enter the authorization code (see prerequisites above) when prompted during the ordering process.
3. Review the DNS section below and, if necessary:
   1. Run a DNS diagnostic to check the Domain <-> Infomaniak Services link.
   2. Run a Mail diagnostic (SPF, DKIM, etc.) to prevent any sending or receiving issues.

Batch transfer of multiple domains

Once the prerequisites above are confirmed:

1. Order the domain names all at once using this Infomaniak transfer assistant.
2. Enter the domain names and authorization codes or import a CSV file (format .csv or .xlsx) with the list of domains and their authorization codes (in 2 columns and up to 300 rows).

Transfer duration, administrative delays

The duration of a domain name transfer is influenced by two factors:

1. The conditions of the registry for the extension; for .FR, Afnic defines a transfer time of up to 8 days; refer to the specific extension details from this page (under FAQs, by first clicking on the relevant extension).
2. The conditions of the Registrar you are leaving; this registrar can oppose the transfer during the transfer time defined by the registry, or they may automatically approve the transfer and expedite it.

Note that a DNS update (see below) can take up to 24 hours.

DNS Configuration (before, during, after)

• Before the transfer, your domain name is linked to various services (Mail, Web...) via its DNS.
• During the transfer process, you will not be able to intervene on the DNS configuration until the transfer is completed.
• After the transfer, since it may be difficult to know when it occurs, you can decide in advance what DNS configuration should be applied (this is also possible during a batch transfer):
  

For example:

1. Your domain domain.xyz currently uses DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you will only work with Infomaniak for email, web hosting, etc.
   • THEN you don’t need to do anything except choose our DNS when prompted during the transfer (same if it already includes DNS such as ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com).
      
2. Your domain domain.xyz currently uses DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you are only moving the domain name while continuing to use other services besides Infomaniak
   • THEN carefully note the information in your current DNS zone (A records, CNAME records, etc.) because Infomaniak cannot guarantee that your current DNS zone will persist in its current location (check with your current registrar) and choose not to use Infomaniak’s DNS.
      
3. If you do not know which DNS your domain currently uses
   • query it via https://infomaniak.com/whois or another WHOIS service.
      
4. If your domain domain.xyz already uses Infomaniak DNS such as ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com before the transfer
   • THEN you do not need to do anything except select our DNS when prompted during the transfer.
