Solving a Web Reputation Problem
This guide helps you to protect the reputation your domain name, to maintain the trust of Internet users and service providers in your website or business, in order to facilitate the smooth operation of your messaging more generally.
The Web reputation
There are different types of reputations on the Internet, including personal reputation, corporate reputation and domain reputation.
The domain reputation is schematically a score that determines how the messaging systems decide what they will let pass in the inboxes of users. Basically, the reputation of your domain is a measure of the health and legitimacy of your domain. This reputation can be influenced by the security of messaging and the website.
P.ex. the reputation of a domain can decline if...
- ... the visible site at the address of the domain undergoes a hack that leads to the sending of fraudulent mail in mass,
- ...the domain's messaging is exploited for sending involuntary spam.
If your domain's reputation remains poor, your emails can be marked as spam and not reach their target audience. This may affect the delivability of e-mails (be aware of this other guide in English on this subject).
Improving the reputation of the field
By following these few tips, you can improve the reputation of your domain and e.g. stimulate all your marketing efforts by e-mail:
- Set up and check SPF, DKIM and DMARC records that help protect your domain from identity usurpation attacks.
- Check your domain's reputation with tools such as Google Postmaster Tools, Sender Score, Microsoft SNDS, McAfee or Talos Intelligence and identify potential problems.
- Don't send e-mails users who have chosen to register!
- Get trust bonds or backlinks…
